Illinois Veterinarian Insurance

Insurance is a must for any business but for veterinarians, it is especially important because of the strong bonds the owners and pets have. If something goes wrong, there could be considerable anger and hurt on the owner’s part which can easily turn into legal action, like in this case…

A local veterinary practice is being sued by a pet owner, who claims negligence led to his dog’s death last year. This pet owner rushed his 3-year-old Great Dane after she took ill, and the owner told the staff to do whatever was necessary for the dog. More than four hours passed before the dog was taken to surgery for a stomach problem, according to the lawsuit. Four days later, the dog died.

The lawsuit cites a necropsy report that concluded the death was caused by a ruptured stomach and infection. The Great Dane’s owner hired an independent expert who determined the dog’s condition was incorrectly diagnosed and the necessary surgery was delayed, the suit states. The owner has refused to pay the $13,000 veterinary bill.
